Removing Firefox Downloads Complete Notification

September 8th, 2008 by JP · No Comments

As much as I love Firefox, there’s a few things about it that annoy me. When using the Gnome desktop, there’s little more that gets my ever-aging goat than the pop-up notification saying:

Downloads complete
All files have finished downloading

(Gee, thanks! I figured out that they were complete when the downloads window closed.)

What’s particularly annoying is that it covers the Gnome Workspace Switcher so that I’m stuck in the current workspace until it recedes. (Well, it does it in a stock Fedora install. YMMV in other Linux distros.)

Luckily I happened upon this Mozilla forum thread: Remove Download Completion Notification. It offers the following fix:

Typing about:config in the address bar
Changing browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete from True to False

And now that bothersome pop-up is gone for good.
