Dear Ron Paul Spammers: Take it somewhere else

June 30th, 2007 by JP · 8 Comments

This morning I received a very interesting piece of blog spam. Here it is, with spelling and grammar errors left intact but the link deactivated.

Why did I just spam your blog? I spammed it because america is under attack by tyrannical individuals who every day are eroding the bill of rights and constitution of the United States. A wise man once said, (paraphrased) “All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. If you had a chance to stop hitler, napoleon, mao, lenin, or pol pot from coming to power, would you? Or would you blindly look the other way while they killed millions of people? Do you think it cant happen here? If you think it cant or wont happen in the US then you’re nieve, blind or both.

Ah, yes, the ever-so-common “spamming for freedom” excuse. That’s what they all say.

While I mostly agree with Ron Paul’s platform and political opinions, the above piece is just a bit hyperbolic for my tastes. It won’t convert the unbelievers, and is simply too ridiculous for even a supporter to take seriously. It looks like it’s simply another spammer attempting to game the search engines on Ron Paul’s behalf.

So, to the Ron Paul campaign, here’s some free advice. If this is from someone involved with your campaign, or even simply an overzealous supporter, you might want to discourage this activity. Your support on the web is quite high, but don’t allow it to be chipped away by anyone with such boorish online behavior. And if this isn’t part of your campaign, but perhaps is an agent provocateur, you really need to do something about it. Either way, here’s the information on the spammer for the education of all.

Originated from IP address 72.249.77.142, which is part of Networld Internet Services . And this part of Networld Internet Services is part of Colo4Dallas (I know, I know, shocking that a colo service has spammers!)

So, for my part, everything from Networld Internet Services and Colo4Dallas is now blocked. I’ll post more if the Ron Paul spammers return.

Read some history and some government theory.

Socialism doesn’t work, and in order to enforce centralized command, the enforcers become what they do not want to be.

That is where we are today.

Sometimes being well read makes ones nervous.

    Vote Ron Paul 2008

He is the only candidate who wants you to know the truth, and by studying his campaign one can learn a great deal about our government as it pertains to history and the present.

    Yo Chickity,

Sorry on behalf of my fellow Paulsters. We do tend to get overexcited b/c what Ron Paul is doing is, in our view, historic and revolutionary.

I thinl Paul fans would be smart to take your advice and tone down the rhetoric a little. We have the right ideas on our side so bullying is counterproductive.

Have you turned on the news lately? Do you call hearing Clinton, Obama, Giuliani, Thompson, and McCain’s names nearly 24/7 spam? Do you write blogs about it? If not why? I dare anyone to watch the CNN or FOX for 30 minutes and not hear one of the above’s names. You never hear anything about that being spam. Maybe the Ron Paul people are aware that the ONLY way Ron Paul’s message will be heard is if they do their part to spread it. We know the mainstream media never will. When Ron Paul is allowed on the news it is usually an interview with a hostile interviewer.

ZappaLives: Thanks for the sensible response. I do wish Ron Paul the best and hope that he’s able to at least shift the Republican campaigns to something more sensible.

Will: None of what you wrote responds to anything that I wrote. Your response was caught in the Akismet spam filter originally. Perhaps I should have left it there.

Know why you don’t hear about it being spam? No? You don’t? Well, here’s the little secret no one has passed your way. It’s not being called spam because it isn’t spam! Spam does not exist on television or radio. It is purely an online phenomenon. Don’t start with something so patently silly if you expect anyone to take you seriously.

You’re not seriously asserting that blog spamming is an acceptable and productive method of getting out his message, are you? Because that’s what this post was about. Blog-spamming. By a Ron Paul supporter or an agent provocateur.

Address what I wrote, and I’ll take your comments seriously.

Ok, I’ll take a crack at it while we’re quibbling over made-up words.

According to Mr. Webster’s definition it is impossible to spam a single blog or even a small or moderate number of blogs, as it must be sent to a “large number of addresses.”

    Main Entry: 1spam
    Pronunciation: ’spam
    Function: noun
Etymology: from a skit on the British television series Monty Python’s Flying Circus in which chanting of the word Spam overrides the other dialogue
: unsolicited usually commercial e-mail sent to a large number of addresses

I do agree that some supporters may be a little over exuberant, but I’d rather have supporters who care and take initiative rather than some couch potato. You also have to figure at least some of the people are deliberately working against him online.

Okay I should have used the word brainwashing instead of spam for what the mainstream media news does. My mistake.

  • 7 JP // Jul 1, 2007 at 9:30 am

This is exactly why I stopped talking about politics with most everyone I know, and why I won’t participate in any political forum or other online conversations about politics. Some of you Ron Paul supporters refuse to have a conversation about what I wrote and seem intent on leading me down some long, winding arguments over word usages and the awfulness of everything which isn’t Ron Paul.

To that I write: Take it elsewhere.

I’m not going to spend my time dealing with this type of nonsense. I foolishly responded once, but I won’t again. Take it elsewhere, folks.

I hope to return us to regularly scheduled comic book reviews shortly.

Comments are now closed for this post.

Now that a lot of the insanity as passed, I’m opening up the comments again. At least until it becomes irritating.
