Powers # 22 (Vol 2)
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis; Pencils and Inks: Mike Avon Oeming; Coloring: Peter Pantazis; Lettering: Chris Eliopoulos; (Icon)
I loved Powers when it was over at Image. It was fun and different and crass and beautiful all at the same time. I even enjoyed the monkey sex issue, as it did seem to me that it had some potential. But, since the move to Icon, and since Bendis seems to be writing several hundred comics a month, the books seems a bit directionless. Yeah, there’s a crime to solve again, which should be interesting. And the same characters are back in the Icon version, which should continue the good stuff started at Image.
But the whole thing just feels off. Like there’s an idea behind it aiming at a good story, but it just hasn’t had the attention or rewrites to make it really work. I hope things pick up within the next couple of issues. I’d hate to have to drop this book after so many years of good stories.
