Issue 6 begins a new arc with a new set of characters, yet Criminal continues to deliver a fantastic story with each issue. Brubaker is truly at his best, and Phillips and Staples do a fantastic job of making the whole issue look just a little bit dirty and seedy.
While the entire Criminal series relies on a long tradition of crime noir stories, it doesn’t matter if the characters don’t carry their own weight. The characters’ believability as real human beings makes for a great first read and leaves open future multiple reads. If you like good writing, then Criminal should be on your list.
