Black Panther # 39 Vol 4
Writer: Jason Aaron; Pencils and Inks: Jeff Palo; Coloring: Lee Loughridge; Lettering: VC’s Cory Petit; Cover: Jason Pearson
Marvel

The last time Black Panther was great was way back in the days of Christopher Priest’s run. Since then, anyone who tackles the story turns him into complete shit.
Issue 39 is a decent story that might be better if it weren’t part of Marvel’s latest company crossover, Super Secrety Secret Invasionary Doo-Dah’s of Nonsense. It’s still good, but it would be be better if it weren’t forced into someone else’s story. And since Jason Aaron only has and issue or two more on this title, it’ll turn to complete shit immediately after. What a waste of a good character.
Criminal # 3, 4 Volume 2
Writer: Ed Brubaker; Art: Sean Phillips; Colors: Val Staples;
Marvel Comics – Icon

It disgusts me that something this well written doesn’t sell better than it does. The story and characters are so perfectly crafted that it’s irritating to see half-assed superhero stuff outsell such a good comic.
Ghost Rider # 22, 23, 24, 25
Writer: Jason Aaron; Pencils and Inks: Ronald Boschi, Tan Eng Huat; Colors: Dan Brown, Jose Villarrubia; Lettering: VC’s Joe Caramagna; Cover: Marko Djurdjevic
Marvel Comics

Ghost Rider continues riding his motorcycle and beating the tar out of people, which seems like exactly what he’s supposed to do. For me, the most interesting aspect were the Deacon’s tattoos, particularly the two Bible verses:
Galatians 6:17 – “From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.” – King James Version
Proverbs 18:24 – “He that maketh many friends doeth it to his own destruction; But there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. ” – American Standard Version
It was a nice touch to a character who didn’t last long.
Powers # 29 Vol 2
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis; Pencils and Inks: Mike Avon Oeming; Coloring: Nick Filardi; Lettering: Chris Eliopoulos;
Marvel – Icon

I looks like this is a sort-of end to the powers-virus storyline, and it’s maybe a bit past time for it. It seems like the virus stuff has been going for the last decade. Regardless, Powers turned back into an interesting comic well worth the purchase.
Ultimate Spider-Man # 123, 124
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis; Pencils: Stuart Immonen; Inks: Wade von Grawbadger; Colors: Justin Ponsor; Lettering: VC’s Cory Petit; Covers: Stuart Immonen, Richard Isanove
Marvel Comics

If you liked previous Ultimate Spider-Man comics, t hen you’ll like this. It’s really more of the same, and that’s not a bad thing. USM isn’t setting out to be anything groundbreaking, but does its best to be a competent, enjoyable superhero comic every month. And it succeeds. Recommended just for being fun.
