So, what happened and why should I care? Hellboy routinely gets high marks from the folks over at the KomicsKast, so I kept reading it expecting that all would be made clear. But, the story closed in little more than a confused jumble of a large amount of Russian mythology jammed into a six part tale. While I enjoyed the early Hellboy stories, I’m missing what exactly is great about this arc.
While Mignola deserves praise for bringing back old myths, legends, and fairy tales, Darkness Calls doesn’t bring them back in any coherent manner. Hopefully the next story will be better.
