This was a kind of one-off issue that took us away from our usual characters. As a one-shot deal, the plot and characters were decent, but the experience wasn’t as good as previous issues. The story, including its wrap-up, felt maybe a little forced, and definitely a little too after-school-special. I don’t need my moral spelled out for me. I’ll pick it up on my own, thanks.

Perhaps one-offs would have worked better had there been several of them spaced out among the previous 4 years rather than saving one up for near the end. It seems quite out of place to have one jump up out of nowhere.

Despite that, this is still Vaughan’s best current work, and certainly his work with the most consistent quality.
