Astro City Character Special Beautie # 1 Cover

There was a time when Astro City commanded my full attention when an issue came out. All the other comics were shoved aside until I finished reading Astro City. But, not so much now.

Perhaps the series changed and the quality isn’t what it used to be. But, looking at the recent issues and early issues, I’m not convinced that the quality diminished. Or, perhaps it is me who has changed, and the story doesn’t have the same hold on me that it once did. Either way, the Astro City universe doesn’t have the same place in my comics reading that it once did, and I’m a little sad for that.

Beautie is a nice break in the current Dark Age storyline. This special issue explores the constant and unstoppable search for origin. Conscious being wish to know from where they came. Since entire religions have focused on the idea, creating elaborate and extensive myths of explanation, the Beautie robot-doll is no exception to this drive.

A good comic worth the read. I only wish I could recapture the feelings from the early days of Astro City.
